Participated in a treasure hunt organised by the Kuala Lumpur Bar. It's a motoring hunt from KL to Malacca with a time given of 8 hours. The objective of the hunt is to search for answers to questions, which are found along the way (on signboards, roadsigns, graffiti etc) and to collect treasures which must be first deciphered from the cryptic clues given. A 5 question bonus consisting of legal related question were also given. Each car should consist of a driver and navigator and 2 passengers.
We prepared ourselves well for the hunt - printout of information on the KLBar, dictionaries of sorts, laptops, we looked at possible treasures, attempted a mini dry run and collated information that may help along the way.
The hunt was flagged off from the Swedish Marque in Sungei Besi and cars were handed with the questions and tulips, which are simple directions which would lead us from one place to the next - Sungei Besi - Cheras - Kajang - Serembam - Malacca.
The hunt was an adrenaline rush the whole way!! Taking things at a leisurely pace at the initial legs of the Hunt, we later raced against time from one leg to the other, rushing for time (late arrivals are penalised) and brainstorming throwing out suggestions and questions and possible answers to our teammates and calling out with joy when an answers were found. At some points we found ourselves walking up and down busy roads under the scorching sun trying to find answers, which we later realised were either right in front of us or nowhere within where we were looking.
There were also tense and nailbiting moments in the car - when we made some mistakes and had gotten lost on a driving misadventure in Seremban with it's lunch hour traffic! And blazing down the highway at over limit speed and barely making it to the Ayer Keroh rest stop in time! And the rush run into a shop to purhase a treasure (which turned out incorrect anyway - *keep the change!*) and the chock-a-block traffic on Jongker St.
In the end, we completed the hunt and reached the pit stop Riviera Bay Resort albeit slightly delayed and with a deduction of a couple of marks.
The next day was a treasure hunt of a different kind - one that satisfies the tummy and the soul! Chicken rice balls and cendol - true Malacca specialities, although we were disappointed with the cendol. A leisure walk down Jongker Walk looking at tourists treasures. A treasure we couldn't find was Satay Celup - apparently the shop only opens at night. At our destination (home! KL!) we chowed down our favourite lat tong (spicy soup with porky stuff inside). Yummy!
I hope to participate in another treasure hunt (*soon*). The weekend sure made me wanna join the Amazing Race.
